Natashja James,
BSW, MS, LPC, RYT
From my lived and learned experiences, I have an informed perspective on how our intersecting identities shape our worldview. Let me share a bit about myself: I am a biracial (Black/Italian), straight, cisgender woman, and my pronouns are she/her. As a millennial, I navigate life as a wife, a new-ish mama, and a Christian.
Professionally, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Certified Secondary School Counselor, and Social Worker with extensive experience in both academic and clinical mental health settings. Since 2012, my clinical roles have spanned outpatient therapy, in-home family therapy, case management, foster care services, and residential treatment. I spent over six years as a K-12 School Counselor in public and charter schools, and more recently, as Assistant Director of a counseling center at a graduate and medical school, supporting the wellness of future health professionals and osteopathic physicians.
A transformative experience in my journey was traveling solo to Cahuita, Costa Rica, for yoga teacher training. Living in a secluded rainforest with fellow yogis from across the globe, deepened my passion for wellness and inspired me to establish my private practice rooted in holistic health. During this time, I earned my 200-hour yoga certification and found an interest in teaching beginner’s yoga, slow flow, and children’s yoga.
I am also deeply passionate about mentoring the next generation of licensed mental health professionals, especially BIPOC counselors navigating their careers in a predominantly White field. In supervision, I emphasize the importance of diversity, clinician self-care, and fostering a supportive professional community.
As a trauma-conscious counselor, I center healing by creating a safe, respectful, and trusting environment. My approach is holistic, drawing from my yoga expertise to honor the interconnectedness of mental, physical, and spiritual health. I strive to cultivate inclusive, affirming spaces where authenticity is valued and deep, meaningful connections can form.
It is a sacred privilege, when clients invite me into their lives, sharing their innermost selves and trusting me to support them through their healing journey. If you feel we could be a good match, it would be an honor to support you, too.
Ready to take the next step? Send me a message, and I’ll gladly offer a free consultation to discuss how we can work together.
